Imagine a market that is decreasing with every item sold, meanwhile the
competition is getting bigger and stronger. That is the digital carrier
business.
I doubt that any factory today would manufacture film only minilabs so
the number of those is not getting any larger especially with more and
more lab owners get rid of their old analogue labs and invest (often
taking the heavy lease) in a digital or hybrid one. Also some of the old
labs just go to the trash. Yet there must be around 10 companies now
that produce digital carriers and develop new models, invest in
innovation, marketing etc. What drives these companies? Optimism or
craziness?
I guess it's the same thing that drives us. We started d-carrier.net
with my Chinese friend more than 2 years ago. Since then I've seen
prices going in every direction, new companies, new models coming,
managers changing, more and more dealers spamming forums and classifieds
etc. And still we are here never to give up until the last analogue
photolab disappears. To contrast a little bit what I was saying I have
to mention that the number of visitors on d-carrier.net has increased
dramatically during the last couple of months. Could this be because
some lab owners are just getting the news about these devices and the
possibility they offer? Possible. It is sure that until the used digital
minilab prices come down near that of an analogue lab it will be still a
good idea especially for starting photo labs to go this way. And the
headache for the already lab owners to sell your old lab getting it
packed and shipped, then buying an other one, having it installed, learn
to use it etc. Well, in case you choose to get yourself a digital
carrier, we are here. Like I said. Until the last analogue only lab
stands.
