I got this strobe from Beijing YinYan as part of an evaluation package a couple of years ago when I was looking for equipment to sell on this site. Apart from a couple of smaller quality issues the rest of the items were all right.
The BY-160B I thought could be an attractive flash to sell for beginners or small studios. 160 Ws is not too strong but if you have small space maybe you don't even want more. It's small and light weight, works as a slave but you can use it with the synch cord as well, you can adjust the power without stops and you can get some accessories for it too. Yes, and it's cheap.
Now the first time I used it the modeling bulb kind of melted the housing and after that it was impossible to put accessories on it such as the snoot as it totally deformed. Learning from that I never used the modeling again.
I used it a couple of times still with an umbrella mainly on locations. The other day I needed a hair-light so I decided to use the BY-160B again. Now with the melted front I could only roll up some hard paper and tape it on the strobe to block the light coming to my lens. I wanted to see where the light goes this time so I turned on the modeling. After about a half hour the unit started smoking and stinking like hell. I was running in and out at the time so I was lucky that I noticed it in time otherwise it could have even gone on fire. After I cooled it I tried if it would still at least flash but no, it's gone.
I took it apart to see what was smoking in it. It was one of those big black capacitors. One of them melted and some fluid escaped from it. I guess that was stinking.
