Been on a cruise, before I forget... - 2011/11/02 12:31
We've just been on a cruise, on the Carnival Valor, namely. It's not so bad as one would think towards the end of a 10 month contract. Quite enjoyed it in fact. Without some extreme digging into, here are some main changes I've noticed over the photography, that's different from what I knew since I left Carnival about 12-13, and ships altogether about 8 years ago. Damn, it's been a while...
1st of all it looks like photographers are no longer the pests of the cruise. People learned to live with them. Both the passengers and the management. They are getting a lot of support we never used to get. Good signage, announcements, TV ads, etc., talking about helpful and attractive stuff. Almost made me stand in the line.
Then, the backgrounds have improved a lot. Not in a tasteful way of course, that would never sell, more like "fun" setting. It's Carnival after all, right? Although on the captain's night they have some nicer stuff also.
And there are a lot more of the photogs we used to have. OK, the Valor is 10% bigger than the Destiny, last Carnival ship I've seen, but there are 70% more photographers on it, roughly. 15 on the field, 2 in the lab and one in the crew bar. Busy little bees.
Their souvenirs got a lot more attractive also. Didn't see keychains though. What happened to them?
And here's one more improvement I've noticed, at the Cayman tender, they have the life rings attached to a wood, this way they can quickly whack it at the balls of those who want slack the pictures. Before they would know what hit them, the picture is done. Good job on that one. We used to have it on a tripod and try to order them to stand behind it. How silly.
Will snap for beer. |
