Life after being at sea too long and getting crusty - 2007/06/28 05:14
Somehow, it is difficult to cut the abilical cord from the mother ship. You know your tollerance level is low and you need to get disembarked before you go 'Postal' but something keeps you there - call it self masochism - "GO ahead, kick me in the crotch Mr. & Mrs brown"! (after being nice to someone after they ordered the wrong print) - thank god for off the wall sales!
Then you finally land on land - an alien world where you have to get a phone number, health care card and .... a real address where mail comes everyday! But first, you plead to your buddy to pass out on his couch. A real haven as you can wake up when you want. You get up, walk to the door, and hear this weird sound.... Fuckin' 'ell, them are birds chirping Vern!
Soon, you start odd jobs and get some self esteem but any pay goes immediatley to your drinking debt. Walking to the coffee shop is a dream. You come back to the couch - pass out and then get up two hours later and realize "This is not a dream - I am off of ships! Yippee"
But where will you work? Back at the ski resort to grovel at your old boss for the lowest position. Fives year pass and you are fully adjusted - hell, you even have money in the bank and a car!
Soon you focus on your career and realize that 10 years on ships is like and dream and is only a story to tell when out on the piss with good mates. "As yes, I rememer the cougar who bought my cruise, got me drunk and shagged me silly on a caribbean island!"
Yes, those were the days my friends - fearless living on a floating hotel... never knowing when your were gonna get your next bollocking by the captain, pissed drunk at the OB or shagged silly by a older cruise broad with three houses, fake breasts and an iguana as a pet.
Life at home ain't so bad - but that doesn't mean you have to settle down. More like... keep on with lifes adventures, focus on what you want from life, and your friends will never get board of your old stories around the fire with cold a pint.
"You're only young once.... but you can be immature forever"!!!!
