Posts from the old pictrography forum - 2007/06/24 22:14
Finally the old Pictrography Forum moved to this shiny new place and will live on here. We hope to gather a larger and more active pictro fan community on this site.
I paste here the threads from the old forum with the e-mail addresses removed. With new questions start a new thread. Don't worry if you don't see many users yet as all the people looking for the Pictrography discussion will be directed here. They'll be coming soon enough.
Please don't reply to this post directly and start a new thread instead.

Pictrography connection to pc problem
Help, help please!!
I'm trying to connect a PG4000 printer to my notebook (windows 2000)using an adaptec 1480A slimscsi adapter. Other devices (scanner) on the scsi work fine. I installed ASPI drivers and PG4000 drivers and made a porttype (pictro scsi . When I try to print from the pg4000-plugin or directly I receive a c105-1 error code. Pictrography manual indicates "a hold bit error in SCSI added parameter or parameter value error". The devicemanager recognises the printer as "1394/scsiprinter, common printer" and not as a Fuji pictrography 4000 printer.
Can you help? Thanks in advance! Henri

Pictrography connection to pc problem
Have just got new computer and am putting pictro 3500 back on via scsii but so long since first did it that I have forgotten how to get it to recognise it. So am afraid not much help to you but would be interested to hear from anyone with any suggestions as I am stuck. Thanks

Re: Re: Pictrography connection to pc problem
Yes thanks! A lot of determination not to be beaten by a computer! It was a simple case of loading up the scsii management software! Doh! And now after a few colour mangement issues, which a colleague helped us iron out, we are now back up and running at full speed again! Thank goodness!

Scanning PG prints
Hello everyone. I am new to this list - and pictro printing. I am a retoucher, printer and photographic assistant who works with a busy fashion, beauty and lifestyle pgotographer in London, UK., I use a PG 4000 to create prints from digital files for clients (magazine repeoduction and advertising). I felt confident that I was supplying a hight quality print that was suitable for scanning and not 'open to interpretation' like an RGB digital file can be in a non colour managed workflow. Recently a client (a very large American magazine publisher)said that they are telling photographers to to supply Pictro prints as they are "imposible to reproduce from". Is this true? or are they just being lazy. I thought that a pictro print with its similar gamut to RA4 prints was entirely scannable. Is the gamut too large to be captured when scanned into CMYK? If this is the case I feel that I will have to think about my workflow. Any ideas?

Re: Scanning PG prints
Alex,
Doesn't sound right to me. This is the first I've heard of this "problem". Are you sure the client knows the difference between a pictro print and a low quality ink-jet? Was the directive aimed specifically at pictro prints? Perhaps the issue is the scanning and not the pictro prints. I've seen it done numerous times in many publications ranging from low end newsprint to high end glossy publications. (I'm assuming this is magazine reproduction) with very good results and without issues. If a "regular" print will work a Pictro print should be fine. Whlle reproduction from a scanned print may not be ideal is certainly not "impossible and as I'm sure you know many publishers, as well intended as they may be can still find a way to foul up reproduction regardless of the media it's presented to them on.

white spots on prints
Hello, Finally I have cranked up my PG3000 for the first time. (it was sitting for a couple of years unused) Prints look okay apart from some random white spots that appear here and there. What can they be water drops between the donor/receiver or some dirt? Has anybody seen that before? Thanks, Norbert

Re: white spots on prints
I've seen these before. According to my notes and a sample print which I saved, cleaning the water coating rollers located below J4 and J5 should solved the problem for me. When I discover a fix for a pictrography problem I try to remember to save the bad print with a note on it so I cam remember how I fixed the problem shoud it occur again. Fortunately, roblems with the pictro seem to be few and far between. Good Luck!

Re: white spots on prints
Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. I will try to clean those rollers. Also I have noticed that a pale white line is running thru one side of the prints about 1.3 cm from the edge. What could that be you think?

Re: white spots on prints
About the white line. I just read in the manual to "move the cleaning plate of the scanner section forward and backward..." Where is this cleaning plate? I don't see anything like that. Thanks, Norbert

Re: Re: white spots on prints
Turn off the machine. Open the door. Look at the knob J3. Immediately to the right of the J3 knob is a black pull tab which is held in with a screw. That's the cleaning plate. Took me forever to find it the first time! There is a laser warning label directly BELOW the knob. The knob is black like the surrounding background so it's kind of "hidden". It's about 20mm wide. Remove the screw. Pull the tab completely out WITHOUT stopping. Push it back in without stopping. Should remove the white line which is caused by dust somewhere in the laser path. Replace the screw. You should be ready to go!

Ah that's where it was. It did the job. Thanks very much again for all your help. Norbert

Print Curl with PG3000
I used my previous PG3000 for several years and had no problem with print curl. I'm now using another PG3000. The prints from this machine exhibit significant print curl. Fuji says it's caused by low humidity during the winter. I think there is more to it than that because I used my other machine year round and the prints came out absolutely flat. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this and what I can do to fix or minimize it.
