Buy European - 2009/02/10 16:33 Obama said buy American. I don't know what he actually means. There must be only a very few things made in america already.

This is far away anyway, let's see more like what it would be if the "Buy European" law would come out. For the photographers of course. First it would be very romantic. We would be a continent of Hasselblads, Leicas and Rollei's. The problem hits in only when you can't afford these beauties. Especially photographers just starting out were assured that there will be a Japanese SLR in the affordable range they can start working with and actually return the investment on one day.

In the older days, even if I don't count the Russian brands there were manufacturers of SLR's in Europe. What happened to Praktica for example. Many Eastern European photographers used to run around with those happily. After the opening of the borders they just threw in the towel before somebody would have even wanted to challenge them. Now they are back with point and shoots. Like if there wasn't enough of those on the market. At least they should start to make some decent SLR's again. Just in case the "Buy European" movement would start.
Will snap for beer.
